Clockchain: Revolutionizing time security in the Web3.0 ecosystem from Neuchâtel
D4D, founded by Ken Yamada and Tetsuji Kobayashi, two longtime friends with a passion for blockchain, is redefining how time is utilized and secured in the Web3.0 ecosystem. After discovering the potential of this technology, the founders created Clockchain, an innovative platform dedicated to securing and tracking time. Based in Neuchâtel, D4D draws inspiration from the region’s rich watchmaking tradition to provide precise, verifiable, and essential time services for numerous industries.
In this interview, Ken and Tetsuji share their vision and explain how D4D is revolutionizing the use of time in the digital world.
Who are you?
We are a time focused blockchain company trying to make time and all time related services (ex: timestamps, Smart Contract scheduling) secure and safe to utilize in the Web3.0 ecosystem.
How was D4D founded?
D4D was founded by two old friends that were initially interested in Bitcoin but fell in love with blockchain technology which we realized was an extremely secure and accurate way tracking digital assets. With that realization came an understanding that we could utilize Blockchain technology to track time. Seconds to be exact. By printing every second on to a block, we realized that we could make seconds into a digital asset that could then be securely and accurately tracked using blockchain. With this new implementation of secure trackable time, we are hoping to allow Web3.0 to utilize time more securely, more accurately, in more novel and critical situations. We call our Blockchain clock the Clockchain. A blockchain network focused on secure and accurate time.
In which field does your company operate? What are the main activities? What services do you offer?
We operate in 3 main areas of Blockchain, Timestamps, Smart Contracts, and Verifiable Get Time services.
The primary services we offer are:
Timestamps and logging: here we allow clients to log their data onto our Clockchain and timestamp their data utilizing blockchain and our Clockchain time. By logging their data onto the Clockchain, users can “prove” their data was logged at a specific time in the past on an immutable ledger. This service will help users authenticate data irrefutably and in real time with ubiquitous ease.
Users can schedule Smart Contracts for future execution utilizing the verifiable, secure and accurate Clockchain time. Furthermore users can log the Smart Contract execution on our logging and timestamp service to “prove” that the smart contract was executed and at the correct time.
Verifiable GetTime services: This allows users to retrieve secure verifiable and accurate time ensuring that the time data users are about to utilize is the actual time, not a spoofed time and feel secure in using it in critical situations. Users can again log the usage of that time with our realtime logging and timestamp system to “show” or “prove” the usage of the time ate the right moment.
Why did you choose the Canton of Neuchatel to set up and expand your business?
We were initially were looking to open our headquarters in Switzerland because of the blockchain friendly environment and first-class financial sector. However, after talking with
representative of NECO, we soon realized that we had an additional synergy with the Canton of Neuchatel, time! As we began to define and distribute our new version of secure, verifiable and accurate time, knowing the long and storied history the region of the Canton of Neuchatel had with watchmaking, clocks and time, we realized that there was only one place a new type of clock made with blockchain should be launched, the Canton of Neuchatel!
Who are your main customers and competitors at this present time?
Some of the potential customers we are talking to include an IT company located in Neuchatel, a global tax company located in Freiburg, an Italian travel and camping company, and a real time location and mapping company located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Some might say that blockchain companies are our competition but we beg to differ. Each blockchain has a central focus that they spend most of their processing power on, sequencing,
proof of work, proof of stake, amount of data, transaction resolution for example. We focus on time. So, while other blockchains may utilize time as one of their data points, we focus soley on time. So if a user is interested in time security, time accuracy, time verifiability, and peace of mind utilizing time in critical situations, we believe no one is more secure, accurate or immutably responsible with Time than the Clockchain network.
How do you perceive and cultivate innovation within your company?
We perceive innovation to be a product of happiness and safety. We believe everyone has a great imagination. That every wrinkle and every bump that makes us different is another opportunity to see the world in a different and innovative way. And that every different view is equally valuable. And that change only makes us stronger.
We ensure that this is possible by making sure that everyone on our team and even outside voices feel safe to speak up. That everyone is as smart and creative as everyone else. That any opinion and any comment is valuable. That everyone is equal and has equal rights to express themselves and their ideas.
What technological model is D4D based on?
We believe that time is an important scheduling tool. Maybe one of the most important. So, we wanted to make it safe to use in critical situations. We understand that the new user will have trust issues at first so we spent a lot of time making sure that we eliminated any doubts about the quality and consistency of our time. First, we print it on a public immutable ledger so that it is there for all to see all the time for verification and “proof ” purposes. In addition, just in case anyone doubts that our time is not accurate we also print UTC time onto our blocks every second along with our Clockchain time so that users can see that our time is accurate and comparable to legacy trusted time sources like UTC. We wanted to speak the language of Web3.0 and allow users to utilize block height vs actual time should they prefer. By slowly eliminating user fear we hope to become a pillar of Web3.0 security.
How do you see your company in 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, D4D Clockchain will be the global benchmark for timestamping and data logging. Our cutting-edge technology will empower companies worldwide to authenticate their data in real-time with unparalleled certainty. We are revolutionizing the concept of time— creating a secure, reliable, and verifiable standard that will support critical operations with absolute confidence.
As Web3.0 economies and ecosystems flourish, we will lead the charge in providing the robust security infrastructure essential for the protection and growth of digital assets. The Web3.0 community will recognize D4D Clockchain as an indispensable pillar, relying on our network as the authoritative standard for time and data authentication. Our advancements will cement our position as a crucial force in shaping the digital future.
What aspects could the Canton of Neuchatel work on to improve its attractiveness to business?
Ooh this is a hard one to answer considering we love the Canton of Neuchatel and the team over at NECO. We feel warmly welcomed and kindly supported. The NECO team has been excellent at communication and upfront and honest about its intentions. The local banks and institutions are willing to work with us, a blockchain company and even the local climate is friendly to blockchain. It has overall been a pleasurable and productive experience for us.
